The Zagreb Observatory occupies the Popov Toranj (Priest's Tower), a structure erected in the 13th century, at Opatička Street 22 in central Zagreb. Alongside its observing facilities, the site includes a 50-seat lecture room, an astrophotography room, five offices, and a library, reflecting its strong educational mission.

History

The observatory was founded in 1903, making it one of the longer-established public observatories in the region, and it has continued its educational programme from the same historic tower ever since.

Telescopes & research

The observatory's instruments include a 175/1400 mm TMB apochromatic refractor, installed in 2007, and a Zeiss 130/1950 mm telescope, both used primarily for public and educational observing.

The observatory sits in the heart of Zagreb, just a five-minute walk from the city centre, making it one of the more accessible public observatories in Europe.
