In Tepezalá, in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes, the Observatorio Hipatia opened on 6 October 2023 as, by several accounts, the largest and most modern observatory in the country.
About Observatorio Hipatia de Tepezalá
The facility combines an observatory with a planetarium and is named after Hipatia, the Greek philosopher and astronomer, following a municipal naming contest. It was the result of 15 years of development and an investment of 15 million pesos.
Telescopes & research
The observatory houses what has been described as Mexico's largest telescope, alongside a planetarium fitted with five laser projectors delivering 4K resolution shows. It is also home to what is described as the country's largest and most complete astronomy library.

The observatory is open daily from 09:00 to 22:00, with capacity for up to 80 visitors at a time, running six visitor groups on weekdays and four on weekends.
