Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory

Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory is a private astronomical observatory on the outskirts of Andrushivka, a town in Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine.

About Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory

Founded and directed by Yuri Ivashchenko, the observatory was established in 2001 and carries the International Astronomical Union observatory code A50. Despite being a private facility, it has built a genuine research record in asteroid discovery and tracking.

History

The observatory has been active in minor-planet astrometry since the early 2000s. On 18 September 2003 it discovered a main-belt asteroid later named 133293 Andrushivka after the town itself. It went on to discover 175636 Zvyagel on 17 October 2007, named to mark the 750th anniversary of the nearby city, and in August 2008 discovered another main-belt asteroid that was later named 274301 Wikipedia, in honour of the online encyclopedia, in January 2013.

The observatory's ongoing work focuses on discovering and tracking main-belt asteroids, contributing observational data used by the wider minor-planet astronomy community.
