Planetarium Negara

Planetarium Negara, Malaysia's national planetarium, has crowned a hill in Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens since it officially opened in 1994.

About Planetarium Negara

Recognisable by its blue dome, the planetarium sits on Jalan Perdana within the Lake Gardens and covers about 120,000 square feet (11,000 square metres). It includes a dome theatre, an exhibition space, and a space theme park featuring replicas of ancient observatories, and it connects to the National Museum of Malaysia via a pedestrian overhead bridge.

History

Construction ran from 1990 to 1993 at a total cost of RM24 million, with the Japanese government contributing RM5 million. The planetarium soft-launched in May 1993 and was officially opened on 7 February 1994 by then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
