Planetarium Halle-Kanena has been introducing students and visitors to the night sky since 1963, making it the oldest school planetarium in Germany.
About Planetarium Halle-Kanena
Part of the Astronomical Station "Johannes Kepler Kanena," the planetarium opened on 7 October 1963 and can project approximately 5,000 stars beneath its 8-metre dome, seating around 60 visitors at a time.
History
Since its 1963 opening, the planetarium has served as a model for more than 15 other school planetariums across Germany, including those in Dessau, Aschersleben, Zwickau, and Wernigerode. The supporting association, Astronomische Station Johannes Kepler Kanena e.V., was founded in April 1998 to help sustain its programs.
