Inside the Science Centre Singapore in Jurong East, the Omni-Theatre combines a planetarium and a large-format dome cinema, giving visitors one of Southeast Asia's most advanced views of the night sky.
About Omni-Theatre, Science Centre Singapore
The Omni-Theatre officially opened on 10 December 1987, inaugurated by Singapore's fourth president, Wee Kim Wee. Its dome screen spans 23 metres, making it the largest seamless dome screen in Southeast Asia, and the theatre seats 221 people following a refurbishment in 2015.
Telescopes & research
Rather than a conventional telescope-based observatory, the Omni-Theatre is built around a state-of-the-art digital planetarium system. The 2015 refurbishment replaced the original analogue IMAX Dome film projector with an Evans & Sutherland Digistar 5 system, making it Southeast Asia's first 8K 3D digital dome theatre. It now hosts both large-format digital movies and live planetarium shows led by science educators.
