About Murillo Family Observatory

Named for Pauline and George Murillo, the observatory serves as both a research facility and a teaching resource for California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). When it opened, it was the newest research observatory in the Inland Empire and across the entire California State University system.

History

The observatory was completed in 2010, adding a modern research and teaching facility to CSUSB's northern campus on Badger Hill.

Telescopes & research

Its two main instruments are a 20-inch Ritchey-Chrétien telescope and a 17-inch Corrected Dall-Kirkham Astrograph, both used for research and student teaching. An observation deck with additional piers lets smaller telescopes be set up alongside them for undergraduate lab classes and public events.
