Perched above the town of Modra in western Slovakia, the Modra Observatory is a working research station of Comenius University in Bratislava, where astronomers have discovered asteroids and pursued astronomical research for decades.

The Astronomical and Geophysical Observatory in Modra - commonly known as Modra Observatory - is owned and operated by Comenius University in Bratislava. Scientific work at the site is led by the university's Department of Astronomy, Physics of the Earth and Meteorology, part of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics.
Telescopes & research
Astronomers at Modra have used the observatory for asteroid discovery, among other research; the asteroid 11118 Modra, found at the site, was named in honor of the town in recognition of that work.

The observatory sits at 531 metres above sea level near the town of Modra, in the Malé Karpaty (Small Carpathians) foothills of western Slovakia - a short drive from Bratislava.
