History

The observatory's roots go back to 1901, when the university's first telescope was installed. It was significantly upgraded in 2014 with the creation of the Emera Astronomy Center, which brought new facilities to the site.

Telescopes & research

The observatory houses two telescopes: the original eight-inch Alvan Clark telescope, still in use under a roll-off roof, and the more modern PlaneWave CDK20, added in 2014 and housed in its own dedicated dome.
