Kiev Magnetic Observatory monitors the strength and direction of Earth's magnetic field from the Kyiv region of Ukraine, part of a network of stations tracking the planet's slowly shifting geomagnetic patterns.
About Kiev Magnetic Observatory
The observatory is operated by the Subbotin Institute of Geophysics, part of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its regular variation and absolute measurements began in 1958 using classic instruments such as the La Cour, Bobrov, QHM, and BMZ magnetometers. Originally sited in Demidov, the observatory relocated about 10 kilometres to Dymer in 1964.
History
Since its founding in 1958, the observatory has steadily modernised its equipment, adding digital variometers (LEMI-008) from 2004, a digital variation station (PSM-8811) from 2009, a DI fluxgate magnetometer (LEMI-203) relayed from the Lviv Centre, and a proton variation station. It has operated in INTERMAGNET test mode since 2005, contributing to the same international standard used by observatories worldwide.

The observatory is located near Dymer, roughly 10 kilometres from its original Demidov site, in the Kyiv region of Ukraine.
