Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias

The Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (INVOLCAN) is a volcanic research and monitoring institute headquartered in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain.

About INVOLCAN

Officially established on 29 June 2010, INVOLCAN is a public-private research entity founded jointly by the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables de Tenerife and the Universidad de La Laguna. Its creation coincided with the 'Cities on Volcanoes 6 — Tenerife 2010' international congress, which drew more than 856 participants from 52 countries.

History

In its early years, the institute established monitoring network agreements with local administrations and universities across the main volcanic areas of the Canary Islands, building the groundwork for its ongoing volcanic surveillance work.
