About Baja Astronomical Observatory
The observatory is affiliated with the University of Szeged and is operated today by the Bajai Obszervátórium Alapítvány (Baja Observatory Foundation). Staff member Dr. Hegedüs Tibor has worked at the site since 1984 and participates in International Astronomical Union education networks, and the observatory takes part in wider astronomy education programmes.
History
The site began in the late 1950s as a satellite tracking station coordinated by the Konkoly Observatory in Budapest. It was separated from that institute and handed to the county council of Bács-Kiskun in 1992.
