6ROADS Observatory sits in the countryside of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, near the town of Oborniki, and is one of a handful of automated telescope stations that make up the 6ROADS network.

About 6ROADS Observatory

6ROADS is a Polish company, headquartered in Kraków, that specialises in space situational awareness: tracking satellites and space debris and searching for near-Earth asteroids using a network of remotely operated optical telescopes. The company traces its roots to 2003, when it built one of Poland's first automated astronomical stations, and its telescopes have since contributed observations used by the European Space Agency and research institutions.

Telescopes & research

The Oborniki site is one node in a wider chain of 6ROADS stations that also includes locations in Kraków, Spain, Italy and Chile, allowing round-the-clock coverage of both hemispheres. The telescopes work unattended, relaying imagery back for astrometry and orbit-determination work rather than public stargazing.

Location & getting there

The observatory lies in the flat, semi-rural landscape of Greater Poland, west of Poznań. As a working technical installation rather than a visitor attraction, it is best located on a map rather than approached in person.

Visiting 6ROADS Observatory

This is an unstaffed, automated facility built for satellite and asteroid tracking, not public tours. If you would like to see the night sky from this part of Poland, a local astronomy club or public observatory nearby is a better bet than the 6ROADS site itself.
