In the Stuttgart-Vaihingen district of Stuttgart, Germany, the Universitätssternwarte Pfaffenwald is a distinctive circular observatory building with a story that predates the university that now runs it.
About Universitätssternwarte Pfaffenwald
The observatory is a four-storey circular building around 10 metres tall, topped with a green dome, and is protected as a cultural monument. It is now operated by AK Astronomie, the University of Stuttgart's astronomy working group, primarily for student education.
History
The building was constructed in 1934 by industrialist Hermann Fellmeth, designed by architect K. Weber. It was transferred to the University of Stuttgart in 1972 through a donation, after which it took on its current role in student astronomy education.
