The Silesian Planetarium sits in Silesian Park on the boundary between Katowice and Chorzów, Poland, standing as the largest and oldest planetarium in the country, built to honour Nicolaus Copernicus.
About Silesian Planetarium
Formally the Silesian Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory (Planetarium Śląskie i Obserwatorium Astronomiczne), the site combines a public planetarium with observatory facilities, part of the wider Metropolis GZM area spanning Katowice and Chorzów.
History
It was founded on 4 December 1955 to commemorate Nicolaus Copernicus, and has held the title of Poland's largest and oldest planetarium ever since.

The planetarium is located in Silesian Park, at the boundary of Katowice and Chorzów, at an elevation of 316 metres, in the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Area (Metropolis GZM) of Poland.
