About Shizuoka observatory
This listing is understood to be connected to Gekko Observatory (Gekko Tenmondai) in Kannami, Shizuoka Prefecture, founded in 1957 by members of Ananaikyo and owned by the International Foundation for Cultural Harmony. Working from that site, astronomers Yoshiaki Oshima and Tetsuo Kagawa discovered 172 minor planets between 1987 and 2000, placing it 40th in the world for total asteroid discoveries as of 2000. Asteroid 4261 Gekko was named in the observatory's honour.
Telescopes & research
The observatory's programme of minor planet discoveries through the 1980s and 1990s made it one of the more productive amateur asteroid-hunting sites of its era.
