About Remplin Observatory
Remplin Observatory was founded around 1792 to 1793 by Count Frederick II von Hahn, making it Mecklenburg's first observatory. At its peak, it ranked as the third-largest observatory outside Great Britain, equipped with large telescopes of European caliber that brought the site international scientific attention.
History
The surviving tower, built around 1800, featured a revolving dome, a genuinely novel piece of engineering for the period, built to house the observatory's large instruments. The tower has been largely preserved and stands today as the oldest preserved observatory building in the Mecklenburg region.
