Nottingham Weather Centre

Nottingham Weather Centre, sometimes called Nottingham Watnall, is a working weather observation station in Watnall, Nottinghamshire, about 5.6 miles (9 km) northwest of Nottingham city centre. It is the closest station with continuous weather observations to the city.

About Nottingham Weather Centre

The centre is a functioning observation and weather station now managed by the Met Office. It carries the World Meteorological Organization classification index 03354, marking it as an internationally recognised source of surface weather data for the region.

History

The station was established in 1941. Formal recording of weather observations began later, in January 1960, and has continued since — making Watnall one of the longer-running weather records in the East Midlands.

The centre sits in Watnall, Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands of England, within easy reach of Nottingham itself. Its position just outside the city gives it a relatively open setting compared with the built-up centre.
