The observatory is operated by the Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), whose research spans astronomy, astrophysics, satellite communication, space flight dynamics, atmospheric science, climatology, and GIS and remote sensing. A notable structural feature is that its pillars extend 15 feet into the ground, built to withstand seismic activity.
