About Kiss György Observatory
The observatory is named after György Kiss (1923–2000), the amateur astronomer who built it. Today it operates six telescopes: five reflectors and one refractor.
History
Construction of the original 300 mm telescope began in 1979 and was completed in the autumn of 1982, with the observatory taking shape around 1980. It was officially named after György Kiss in 2004. Following his death in 2000, István Zahorecz became the observatory's new director.
