Haverford observatory

Haverford Observatory, known formally as the Strawbridge Observatory, sits on the campus of Haverford College in Pennsylvania, serving both the college's astronomy classes and the wider public.

About Haverford Observatory

The observatory was built in 1933 around an earlier existing structure and remains an active part of Haverford College's physics and astronomy programme. It is equipped with 12-inch and 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, used by students in the college's astronomy classes for hands-on observing.

Visiting Haverford Observatory

Haverford runs a public observing programme four times each semester, staffed by teaching assistants and professors. Sessions include short presentations, activities for children, and time looking through the telescopes at whatever is visible that night.
