Greenhill Observatory

Greenhill Observatory is a University of Tasmania research facility on Bisdee Tier, near Spring Hill, roughly 50 kilometres north of Hobart.
About Greenhill Observatory
Operated by the University of Tasmania (UTAS), the observatory sits at an elevation of 646 metres near the village of Jericho, its nearest municipality. It is named in honour of Dr John G. Greenhill (1933-2014), a longtime UTAS astrophysicist.
History
Greenhill Observatory was officially opened by the Governor of Tasmania in February 2013.

The observatory's elevated position on Bisdee Tier, about 50 km north of Hobart in the Oceania region, gives it clearer, darker skies than a site closer to the city, part of what makes it useful for university research.
