Granda observatory

Granda Observatory, run by the Circolo Astrofili Bergamaschi in the Bergamo Alps of Lombardy, Italy, opens its dome to the public on the first Friday of every month.

About Granda Observatory

The observatory, located near Ganda di Aviatico in the province of Bergamo, has been developed since 1995 by the Circolo Astrofili Bergamaschi (Bergamo Astronomy Circle). Sitting at around 1,200 metres of elevation in the Orobie Pre-Alps, it combines public outreach with ongoing amateur research, including observation of variable stars by club members.

Telescopes & research

Members of the Circolo Astrofili Bergamaschi use the observatory for scientific work on variable stars, alongside astronomy courses and school programs for visitors of all ages.

Granda Observatory sits high in the Orobie Pre-Alps above Bergamo, at roughly 1,200 metres, giving it notably dark, clear mountain skies.

Visiting Granda Observatory
