Ostrava planetarium

Ostrava planetarium is a planetarium and observatory in Ostrava, Czech Republic, run as part of VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava.

About Ostrava planetarium

Founded in 1980, it is the third-largest planetarium in the Czech Republic. The dome, 12.5 metres in diameter, originally seated 100 visitors and has since been substantially modernised.

History

Between 2012 and 2014 the planetarium underwent a major renovation, installing a new projection system that brought its shows up to modern digital standards.

Telescopes & research

The renovated dome now runs on an Evans and Sutherland Digistar 6 system, combining digital fulldome projection with GoTo Pandia opto-mechanical star projectors, and hosts programmes tailored for preschool groups, school classes, and the general public.

The planetarium sits at around 275 metres elevation in Ostrava, in the Czech Republic's Moravian-Silesian region.
