Omaha Observatory is an astronomical observatory associated with the Omaha Astronomical Society in Nebraska, United States.
About Omaha Observatory
The Omaha Astronomical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, designed and built a 20-by-20-foot observatory on land leased from the American Legion in Gretna, Nebraska, giving the group a permanent home for its public astronomy programme.
History
The society's roots trace back to the Great Plains Astronomy Club, active in the region from the 1930s through the 1950s. Its mission is to introduce people across the Omaha metropolitan area to astronomy and the night sky.
Telescopes & research
The society runs an extensive public outreach programme and holds regular meetings on the first Friday of each month at the Durham Science Center on the University of Nebraska Omaha campus, held as hybrid in-person and Zoom sessions for members who can't attend on site.
