Guam Magnetic Observatory

Guam Magnetic Observatory is a geomagnetic monitoring station in Dededo Municipality, Guam, operating on United States Air Force property.

About Guam Magnetic Observatory

Rather than a stargazing site, this is a scientific facility run by the USGS Geomagnetism Program. It measures Earth's magnetic field and shares its site with the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center's Brown Treesnake Project.

History

The observatory was established in 1957 and has operated continuously as part of the 210 Magnetic Meridian Array ever since.

Guam Magnetic Observatory collects vector and scalar magnetometer data used for modelling Earth's main magnetic field and supporting geophysics, space physics, and space weather research.
