About Gingin Magnetic Observatory

Gingin Magnetic Observatory is a geomagnetic monitoring station established by Geoscience Australia near the town of Gingin, about 90 kilometres north of Perth in Western Australia. It replaced the earlier Gnangara magnetic observatory and forms part of Geoscience Australia's national network of geomagnetic observatories, which record the Earth's magnetic field for uses ranging from natural resource exploration and navigation to space weather forecasting.

The observatory is sited within the Gravity Discovery Centre precinct near Gingin, in the bushland north of Perth, Western Australia. The Centre also runs astronomical telescope operations at the same site, making it a dual-purpose science destination.

Visiting Gingin Magnetic Observatory

The magnetic observatory itself is an unstaffed monitoring station rather than a visitor attraction, but it shares its site with the Gravity Discovery Centre, which welcomes the public for tours, telescope viewing, and science exhibits.
