About Galati Observatory

Galati Observatory is described as the largest and most modern public observatory in Romania, and it was the first in the country to be built with a retractable roof, letting the dome open directly onto the night sky. It houses the largest telescope made available for public stargazing in Romania, and its programme includes live broadcasts of the Moon and other celestial bodies as well as coverage of eclipses.

The observatory is part of a larger cultural and science complex in Galati that also includes a Botanical Garden, an Aquarium, a Zoo, a Museum, an Auditorium and a Planetarium, making it easy to combine an evening under the stars with a full day out.
