About Buenaventura Suárez Observatory

The observatory is named after Father Buenaventura Suárez (1679–1750), an 18th-century Jesuit astronomer who carried out observations in Paraguay and published his findings in European journals. The park around it also includes a planetarium and an observation instruments facility.

Telescopes & research

Its main instrument is a computerised, remote-access 40 cm f/10 telescope, fitted with a specialised astronomical imaging camera and a parallel refractor. Unusually, the telescope can be operated remotely over the web free of charge, simply by creating an account.
