About Bosque Alegre ground station
This is a satellite communications facility rather than an optical stargazing observatory. It was constructed in the late 1970s and inaugurated in 1983, becoming Argentina's second ground station after the existing Balcarce facility reached the limits of its transmission capacity. It has long been operated by TELECOM Argentina S.A.
Telescopes & research
The site hosts more than 20 parabolic antennas linked to the Intelsat and Landsat satellite networks, plus a further five antennas for the GLOBALSTAR system. Rather than observing the stars, the station handles data transmission, telephony, internet services, and data centre operations, using the ARSAT and SES satellite networks.
